Forest School

Forest School Progression of Skills

Forest School is an established and valued part of our curriculum, providing children with regular opportunities to learn, explore and develop through outdoor experiences in a natural environment.

Children in all year groups take part in fortnightly Forest School sessions.  These sessions take place in our own beautiful grounds, which include an extensive field and forest area, wildlife garden and so much more!  Within our Forest School curriculum, we also integrate visits to other venues.  We visit Dalby Forest regularly (using our very own minibus!) and we link with our partner school, Seton Community Primary School in Staithes, to join their Beach School sessions.

Forest School offers a wide range of benefits for children. Regular time outdoors supports positive mental health and emotional wellbeing, helping children to reduce stress, build self-confidence and develop resilience. Through practical, hands-on activities, children learn to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and solve problems creatively.

Forest School also provides valuable opportunities for children to learn how to assess and manage risk safely, supporting the development of independence, sound judgement and responsible decision-making. In addition, outdoor learning encourages children to be active, curious and reflective, and to develop a lasting appreciation of the natural world.

Our Forest School programme is led by our highly skilled staff, who are all experienced and dedicated Forest School Leaders.  They ensure that all sessions are safe, purposeful and engaging for every child.
