Pupil Premium
At Ruswarp School, we receive additional government funding known as the Pupil Premium. This funding is designed to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping to close the achievement gap between them and their peers, regardless of their starting points or abilities.
Who qualifies for Pupil Premium?
- Children currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) or who have been eligible in the last six years (known as "Ever 6").
- Children who are looked after by the local authority or have previously been in care
- Children with parents serving in the regular armed forces (this is called Service Pupil Premium).
What funding is available?
- Schools receive £1515 additional funding for any pupil who has been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years.
- Schools also receive an additional £350 for any children from Services families.
- An additional £2690 is also given to schools for any pupil who has been adopted, or is in local authority care.
How is the funding used?
Schools have the autonomy to decide how best to spend the Pupil Premium to benefit eligible children. This might include strategies to improve the quality of teaching, targeted academic support, or wider strategies to support wellbeing and attendance.
Each year, schools must produce a ‘Pupil Premium Strategy’ that outlines how this additional funding will be spent and the impact previous spending has had. The information below provides details of current and previous strategies for expenditure and impact at Ruswarp. The next review of our Pupil Premium Strategy will be in July 2026.
