Live lessons and drop in sessions for W/B 18.01.2021

Here is the timetable for Week 3. Please note the change in the maths sessions being split into three groups. Your child will be able to find out their group from the daily slides on Monday morning. Please ensure that they only attend their live maths session and not the other sessions. The aim for the week after (week 4) is to set up small groups to enable more targeted support but I wanted the children to get used to having to look for their group first before we begin this.

**** After your child has accessed the science live lesson, then they may wish to complete the experiment at home themselves. For this, they will need: 5 Smarties OR 5 Skittles, 5 beakers/cups/bowls or containers- something to be able to place the sweets and water in, different temperature waters (put some in fridge, some in freezer - but not frozen, some in room, boil kettle-please supervise this for me) a timer, a stirrer (such as spoon or stick)  and a thermometer (if possible- this is not essential). ****

***REMOTE LEARNING 2021 UPDATE***

Dear parents,

Thanks to those who joined the trial ‘live Literacy’ lesson.

For the majority of those who joined, it seemed as though all aspects of the call worked. Because of this, we are updating the home learning offer for Adventurers.

For the rest of the week, alongside the daily slides and work on Google Classroom, there will be one live lesson per day (apart from Friday) for the class to access if they can. As well as this, there will be ‘drop in’ sessions where any children who are stuck with an aspect of the work can click the meet link at the top of the class page on Google Classroom within the given time frame to speak to myself, Miss Greer or Miss Newton and have guidance with their work.

The ‘drop in’ sessions only need to be accessed if your child is stuck with an aspect of their work whereas the ‘live lesson’ is a taught session in which all children are encouraged to join if they can.  The ‘drop in’ sessions will replace the chat on the daily slides (this will no longer be available from Tuesday 12th January) to reduce the filtering of the chat to find where children have requested help.

In terms of marking, if your child shares over their work on Google Docs/slides with myself, Miss Greer and Miss Newton, (they should know how to do this from school) then we can mark this for them. We will mark work after school hours to enable everyone to have time to complete the work from the day.

A few of you have mentioned that your child is finishing work before the end of the school day. I have updated the slides with the timings of every session and extras which can be completed if they have spare time within this session. I understand that the work is very computer heavy and that it may not be possible for them to have access to a computer for the whole day but if your child is following the structure, then work is timetabled from 8.45am until 3pm.

Many thanks for all your help and support at home so far-  we appreciate the difficulty you are all facing in juggling this and your own work.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.

Many thanks,

Miss Robson, Miss Greer and Miss Newton.

Remote Learning - Adventurers Class

Dear Parent,

We are sorry that your child is unable to attend school currently, either due to displaying symptoms or through a requirement to self-isolate.

During this time, we are expecting your child to revert back to Home Learning, assuming s/he is well enough to do so. All information about the topics that the children are covering in class this term are on the class page of the website: https://www.ruswarp-primaryschool.co.uk/

All of our Year 5/6 children (Adventurers Class) have login details in order to access Google Classroom. All children know how to do this.

Google Classroom

Log in to your Google Classroom account for the daily work. These are the exact slides we will be using in school for the day so it is the most relevant work for your child if they are unable to attend school.

CLICK HERE TO TAKE YOU TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM

To login, use the same email and password you use on the Chromebooks at school. For example: firstname.surname@ ruswarp.n-yorks.sch.uk

The work will be set daily via Google Classroom and class teachers will upload assignments to Google Classroom for pupils to access remotely. This will include instructions to support learning and may include a video link using Google Classroom to allow for virtual teacher input. Pupils will then complete work independently.

For pupils working remotely, written responses to work can be sent back via Google Slides or Docs. Once the document is set up, then click the share button in the top right corner. Type in Miss Robson’s email address. This is s.robson@ruswarp.n-yorks.sch.uk. Work is saved automatically and edits are automatically updated to the teacher once the document is shared. Teachers are able to monitor the work continually and when possible, provide feedback.  This feedback will provide next steps/support as required, using the Google platform to ensure learning is secure. The class teacher will be in school at this time and working with the children throughout the day, therefore interaction with the child isolating is likely to be after the school day has finished.

If your child is not accessing the work, the class teacher or Headteacher will get in touch to discuss any obstacles and to provide support.

For additional Maths, English and Science please refer to the following websites, selecting the appropriate year group / topic:

Your child can continue to do daily:

  • Reading
  • Activities related to the topic – see website for ideas.
  • Spellings-available on the website as well as the Useful Websites Classroom on Google Classroom.  (Work on the Year5/6 word lists as well as those from Year 3/ 4 to ensure all words are able to be spelt.)
  • Times tables- continue to work on times tables to either learn further or gain speed.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can be of any further assistance.

Many thanks,

S. Robson
