Ruswarp Church of England Primary School Think for Yourself and Act for Others

EYFS and KS1

Welcome to Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Dear Parents ,

A big hello and a very warm welcome to you and your children! Whether you are joining our school for the very first time or are already part of our family, we are so pleased to share this exciting journey with you.

The first years at school are such a special time—full of new adventures, friendships, and discoveries. In Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, children learn so much through play, exploring, asking questions, and having fun together. Our team is here to make sure your child feels safe, happy, and ready to learn each day.

We know that starting or moving through school can be a big step, not just for children but for families too. Please know that we are always here to listen, to answer questions, and to celebrate your child’s achievements alongside you. Working together, we can make these early years a wonderful experience for your little one.

We can’t wait to see all the smiles, laughter and learning that this year will bring!

We are taught by, Mrs Stainthorpe with support from Mrs Bell. They make sure our classroom is a friendly and nurturing environment where we all have the opportunity to flourish and excel.

We are excited to share the wonderful learning journey your child will embark on this year! In our EYFS and KS1 classes, we focus on creating a warm, welcoming, and engaging environment where children feel safe, happy, and inspired to explore, grow, and achieve their best.

EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage):

The EYFS curriculum is designed to support your child’s development in the key areas of communication, physical development, personal, social, and emotional development, as well as literacy and mathematics. We believe that learning through play is essential for young children, and we ensure that every day is filled with fun, hands-on activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

KS1 (Key Stage 1):

In Key Stage 1, we build on the foundations laid in EYFS and introduce a more structured approach to learning. Children in KS1 begin to develop their skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and a range of creative subjects. We aim to provide a stimulating environment where children can work independently, collaborate with peers, and develop critical thinking skills that will serve them well throughout their education.

Throughout both stages, we place great importance on creating a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported in their individual learning journey. We also encourage strong communication between school and home, so parents and carers can be actively involved in their child’s progress.
